When it comes to signage they can be considered an eyesore and annoyance, however, they can be useful especially when using for sale signs in front of a home to raise its visibility to prospective buyers.
In Los Angeles County, municipal codes are implemented to regulate the types of activities permissible within specific plans. These municipal codes include upholding standards and general procedures related to signage usage within each specific plan.

The Universal Studios Specific Plan
The Universal Studios Specific Plan, for example, establishes the type of signage activities permissible within their plan under Section 22.408.180.
Under the aforementioned municipal plan, signs are put into multiple categories with each category being permitted or prohibited in certain districts within the plan.
The Universal Studios Specific Plans has 5 districts with signs being sub-categorized as being off-site or on-site signs. For the Universal Studios Specific Plan, on-site signs are used to identify or promote products, businesses, services, etc owned by NBC Universal and its affiliates.
Off-site or on-site signs
Real Estate signs are used to indicate a property or building is available to be leased, sold, inspected, or rented. This has to do with the type of sign being used for identification or information rather than the physical location of the sign.
Real Estate signs can be sub-categorized as being either an off-site or an on-site sign. On-site real estate signs are allowed in District 1 Lankershim Edge but prohibited in District 5 Back Lot.
Real Estate sign restrictions
Real Estate signs are restricted to a one per building face with a maximum of four for the whole building. Each real estate sign cannot be more than 500 square feet and cannot be higher than the building.
The signs must be limited to promoting the sale, lease, or rent of buildings and units, or direct people to the building.
